Sri Lanka
Winter and I will never be friends in this lifetime, so I knew I had to decide where I wanted to spend the next one.
Definitely not in Germany. The idea of Sri Lanka came to me when a friend mentioned that one of her acquaintances had been working at an Ayurveda hotel there for years. So, I wrote to the hotel via Facebook to see if they needed any kind of support and they responded relatively quickly. They were looking for a yoga teacher and guest supervisor. An interview via Skype followed. Once everything was sorted, I booked my flight and, by the end of October 2015, I left Berlin for Sri Lanka, where I spent six months working at the hotel.
It was a beautiful hotel, all rooms had a sea view, including my room.
I had a 6 day week where I taught yoga every other day. The other hours were filled with guest care. For the most part, this meant accompanying the predominantly German guests to their consultations with Ayurveda doctors and noting down which treatments and “medications” they should receive.
Before heading to Sri Lanka, I completed my yoga therapy training, which allowed me to start offering private classes to the hotel guests.
Many of the guests came to Sri Lanka with complaints and various illnesses and hoped that the Ayurveda treatment would provide relief and, in the best case scenario, a cure. I worked with people who had hip or back problems. But also with a guest who was recovering from a serious case of cancer. I learned so much in this collaboration and was able to grow as a yoga teacher.
During this time, I also began chanting on-site.
The initial six-month stay turned into just one month for various reasons, and I then continued my travels to Thailand. Returning to Berlin in December was not an option for me.
Let yourself be surprised by what happened there.
Greetings, Diana
